Sky Go to drop iOS 7 support

If you're running iOS 7 and use Sky Go, soon you'll have to upgrade to iOS 8 or start using the streaming service on another device. Anyone firing up Sky Go will see a message that says, "We will shortly be making an update to the Sky Go iOS app. Following this update, iPhones and iPads running iOS7 will no longer be supported."

According to the message, anyone running the current app will be able to do so until a change to the service that would require a software update. At that point, the new version of Sky Go will be unsupported by iOS 7 and users will be cut off from the service.

In fairness to Sky, iOS 7 is now coming up for three years old, which is an age when it comes to mobile operating systems. It's also fair to point out that according to Apple's official iOS stats , only 5% of Apple users (iPad and iPhone) are running iOS 7 or earlier, so few people should be affected by this change.

When Sky has to force users to upgrade, the only way to get Sky Go on iOS is to upgrade iOS 8 or higher. iOS 8, according to Apple, is supported on the iPhone 4S and higher, and the iPad 2 and higher, which should cover the vast majority of people's devices.

For anyone not running iOS 7, but still getting the Sky Go message, you can just select the 'Do not show me this message again' tickbox and it'll disappear forever. If you upgrade your Apple devices, you'll need to follow my advice on how to add, change and remove Sky Go devices .
