TomTom Bandit Action Camera wants to make editing video less frustrating

Action cameras are a great way to capture adrenaline-fuelled footage of your latest exploits. Whether that's skiing down a mountain or careering a mountain bike down a dirt track. Capturing all of that footage is well and good but you need to get it off your camera and edit it all together if you want professional-looking results.

TomTom wants to make this process easier with its new Bandit Action Camera. The companion app, available for iOS at launch and Android shortly after, can be used to add music, create cuts and add overlays easily. TomTom says a simple shake of the camera will instantly create an exciting movie. A tagging button on the camera can be used to mark interesting segments of footage as you record, or moments can automatically be tagged based on G-force, acceleration or heart rate data. The latter will require the use of an optional accessory, however. This isn't anything too groundbreaking, as other action cameras have included similar features in the past.

The Bandit shoots at up to 4K/15fps, which doesn't rival the GoPro Hero 4 Black , and you'll need to drop the resolution to 2.7K if you want 30fps or 1080p if you want a smoother 60fps. The Bandit otherwise includes other features of action cameras including slow-motion modes, burst photo and time lapse modes and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth pairing.

The TomTom Bandit is currently available to pre-order for £310 direct from TomTom. There’s also a Premium Pack available for £380 that includes useful extras such as the Batt-Stick that combines a microSD card reader, bigger battery and USB 3.0 connectivity meaning it’s easier to download footage from the camera simply by removing the Batt-Stick. A number of extra mounts are also included as well as a useful GoPro mount adaptor, which should open up your choices even further.

We’ll conduct a full review as soon as these are available so keep checking back.
